Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated an Ayurveda research and training institute in Gujarat which will provide a range of courses and forge interdisciplinary collaborations to grant a recent thrust to the traditional medicine system.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated an Ayurveda research and training institute in Gujarat which will provide a range of courses and forge interdisciplinary collaborations to grant a recent thrust to the traditional medicine system. PM Modi inaugurated the newly formed Institute of Teaching and Research in Ayurveda (ITRA) through video conferencing today in view of the continued Covid-19 pandemic. The newly formed institute has been deemed an ‘institute of national importance’.

About the Institute of Teaching and Research in Ayurveda (ITRA)

ITRA, which was founded by merging a cluster of 4 Ayurveda institutes at the university campus, is settled within the Gujarat Ayurveda University campus in Jamnagar town and was created through an Act of Parliament recently. The four institutes include - the Institute for Post Graduate Teaching and Research in Ayurveda, Shree Gulab Kunverba Ayurveda Mahavidyalaya, Institute of Ayurvedic Pharmaceutical Sciences, and Maharshi Patanjali Institute for Yoga Naturopathy Education and Research.

According to an unleash by PIB, ITRA is the 1st institute to relish the INI standing within the AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, and Homoeopathy) sector. In September, Parliament had passed a bill for the creation of ITRA and presented it the status of an "institution of national importance"."ITRA is going to be the primary institution with INI status within the AYUSH sector, and this can modify the institution to be independent and innovative within the matter of deciding course content and pedagogy," aforementioned the release. "The decision comes at a time once international interest in health solutions supported traditional wisdom is at an unprecedentedly high level and ITRA is poised to require Ayurveda education to new vistas," it added, as per PTI reports.

ITRA can have the autonomy to upgrade standards of Ayurveda education, in keeping with a release by the Ministry of AYUSH. It stated, “It can provide courses as per national and international demand and forge interdisciplinary collaborations to grant a contemporary thrust to Ayurveda.”

The release further added, “This University is an autonomous organization totally supported by the Gujarat government. The university takes care of the management of the institutes and colleges located within the campus alongside conducting examinations of degrees/diplomas awarded by the university.”
