The Karnataka-based Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) has announced that their first-semester undergraduate exams for engineering will be conducted as per the schedule.

After Karnataka announced new measures such as the weekend curfew and the extended night curfew until May 4, Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) on Wednesday announced that further examinations held for undergraduate engineering students will continue, "according to each requirement."

"The first semester exams will be conducted according to a schedule that has been informed of all safety measures," said Registrar Professor A S Deshpande. He added that students who may not miss the exam due to the epidemic will be allowed to attend the exams later. “Such students will be permitted to take the missed examination during the even semester exams conducted next, and shall be treated as the first attempt.”

Deshpande also issued a circular stating that such students would be allowed to move to the second semester to study classes, stipulating that the venue would be open only to BE regular students.

Meanwhile, VTU officials added that the two subject trials were completed by 98 percent of the students studying at it. “Only four more exams are pending and a delay in completing them would further harm the academic schedule and even the future career of these students,” an official told Indianexpress.com

VTU previously reported that the curriculum had already been delayed for four months in ongoing semesters due to closure last year.

Varsity in charge of engineering education in Karnataka has also announced that even semester classes will begin on May 19. Authorities have yet to determine whether these courses will be held offline or offline.

However, many students have been urging the varsity to postpone exams citing the epidemic and the ongoing bus strike across the country. “I really don't understand why VTU is so focused on doing these exams that put the lives of so many of us at risk. Several students were forced to travel from neighboring provinces such as Maharashtra, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu to attend these non-public tests. This situation has also affected us mentally, ”said a Mysuru student.

Due to the constant demand for students, many politicians in the province have also urged the authorities to postpone the exams. One of them, Lavanya Ballal, Congress's national communications coordinator, wrote on Twitter that, "there are a lot of 17k + cases in Karnataka today, * the highest * since the outbreak. The VTU exams need to be postponed, If all other boards can postpone like BU(Bundelkhand University), why Take care of people once, not you. ”

On Sunday, Bangalore Student Community (BSC) president Dhruv Jatti tweeted a copy of his petition sent to the Office of the Prime Minister demanding that the exams be postponed. "I have asked him (the Prime Minister) to remove C N Ashwathnarayan (Minister of Higher Education) from his post as he is unable to deal with student problems," Jatti said.
