Selection criteria for IIM-Bangalore

Indian institute of Management, Bangalore being a premier institute in India, and whole of Asia Pacific  is a educational  institute which needs no introduction in terms of academic records, placement, infrastructure. Broadly speaking, it excels in every criteria for being called “one of the best” .The college has been amongst the top ranking management institute for the past many years.
IIM Bangalore was established in 1973, being third IIM to be established, the college holds is an institute of national importance.  In 1972, a committee headed by Mr. Ravi J. Matthai observed an upsurge in the demand of graduates from IIM Ahmadabad and IIM Calcutta, so they decided to form a new institute IIM-B. While first two IIM were centered around private sector, IIM Bangalore is more inclined towards public sector corporate.

Procedure to get into IIM-Bangalore

IIM Bangalore has reduced the CAT 2019 cut off percentile score by 5 points for MBA admission 2020 for each category in shortlisting process for PI-WAT round. The non-engineers, candidates from diverse backgrounds and candidates with work experience of 36 months or more stand a good chance to get into IIM Bangalore at a CAT 2019 percentile of 85 and above. The PGP 2020-22 batch of IIM Bangalore will be awarded MBA degree instead of PGDM.
IIM Bangalore Admission Criteria 2020is a two step process - short listing criteria for PI-WAT with  40% weight for CAT 2019 score and 50% Weight to Academics while the Final admission selection Criteria award only 25% weightage to CAT 2019 score.
Over the years, IIM Bangalore has found that the students who perform well academically in the PGP programme are those who have a consistently good academic record at their secondary school, higher secondary school and graduation level, besides exhibiting sufficiently high aptitude as measured by the CAT Exam. Accordingly, IIM Bangalore uses multiple parameters and award high weightage to academic performance in Class 10 and 12, bachelor’s degree as well as the section wise scores in CAT exam to judge the suitability of candidates for the PGP programme.
Following steps are included in the IIM Bangalore Admission process:
  • The candidate must have appeared and scored the minimum required sectional and overall percentile in CAT 2019 to be considered for first stage screening process for admission at IIM Bangalore
  • Candidates are short-listed for Personal Interview (PI) and Written Ability Test (WAT) from among the candidates who have a valid CAT-2019 score, who have excellent academics, who have applied to the programme and who satisfy the eligibility criteria for the programme of IIM Bangalore.
  • IIM Bangalore will identify many candidates for shortlisting for the PI round with an excellent academic record and work experience but who may have narrowly missed the high score that would have been required if CAT alone was the basis for the PI shortlist. Such candidates will be preferred in the shortlisting process as against those who have only a high CAT score but have poor academic profile and poor quality of work experience.  The emphasis in shortlisting process at IIM Bangalore is on consistent and high performance in academics and other parameters.
  • After the WAT & PI round, admission offers are made by IIM Bangalore to successful candidates. The final selection is based on a diverse set of attributes which includes performance in WAT & PI, Performance in past academics, Performance in CAT 2019, Quality of Work Experience among others
  • Final Admission Offer will be made by IIM Bangalore to the candidates in the third week of April 2020 on the basis of Final Score arrived after awarding the weightage scores on all the components.
