NEET-2020 - REGISTRATION/ELIGIBILITY/EXAM DATES

The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET)-Under Graduate, formerly known as All India Pre-Medical Test (AIPMT) is an entrance examination in India for students who wish to study undergraduate medical courses and dental courses in government or private medical colleges and dental colleges in India. Approx 14 lakhs students took NEET in 2019; NEET is the single most popular medical entrance exam in India, students are determined based on their ranking or NEET score, whether they will get MBBS or BHMS or BAMS or Dental,  around 400 medical colleges and 130 Dental colleges accepts NEET. The exam is conducted by National Testing agency. Prior to 2019, the test was administered by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in partnership with Prometric Testing Pvt. Ltd.  Headquarter in the USA. NEET-UG replaced the All India Pre-Medical Test (AIPMT) and all individual MBBS exams conducted by states or colleges in 2013. However, many colleges and institutes had taken a stay order and conducted private examinations for admission to their MBBS and BDS courses. NEET-UG is a single entrance test for admissions to more than 66,000 MBBS and BDS seats across India.
Official Notification for NEET-2020 is out, Registration will be starting from 2-31st Dec 2019, and exam will be conducted on 3 may 2020, it should be noted that actual dates may vary due to some unexpected changes.  Candidates who have appeared for the exam can check the answer key of NEET 2020 in May while the result will be announced on June 4, 2020. Counseling will start thereafter separately for the All India quota for 15% of the government medical seats in the country plus seats of deemed universities and central universities and state wise counseling for 85% of the government seats and all private seats of the state.
Analyzing NEET 2020
NEET-2020 organized by NTA (National Testing Agency) will be asking 720 questions on Biology (360), Chemistry (180) and Physics (180). The syllabus of NEET is not much updated every year. The curriculum followed through 12th is followed; basically NCERT and certain other books are focused while framing questions. NEET qualifies students to get admission to MBBS and BDS programs in India, Admission to all the AYUSH courses available in the country, Admissions to veterinary and other undergraduate medical courses in the country. Currently according to MCI, there are approx 80000 Medical seats in approx 530+ colleges and according to DCI, there are approx 27000 seats in 320+ BDS colleges in India.
NEET- Eligibility and Admission
Eligibility criteria for appearing in NEET-
  • Nationality- All students who are Indian Nationals, Non Resident Indians (NRIs), Overseas Citizen of India (OCI), Persons with Indian Origin (PIO) Foreign Nationals are allowed to appear in NEET.
  • Age- Candidates must be 17 years of age on December 31st 2019. There is no upper limit set by NTA for the candidates appearing in NEET.
  • Studies- Candidates must have qualified Class 12 or equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/ Bio-technology, also students who are appearing for class 12th exam this year can also participate in NEET.
Admission Eligibility
After the results of NEET have been announced, the counseling process for MBBS/BDS admissions will begin. Only those candidates who would have scored minimum required qualifying percentile in NEET will be able to participate in the counseling process and be considered for admissions. To qualify NEET, you will need to score at least 50th percentile (40th percentile for SC/ST/OBC). Last year, the NEET qualifying score was 119 marks (out of 720).
