Tips on how to crack CAT-2019

CAT, the highly hyped and aspired test is due in November 2019. Every year more than 2 lacs students appear for taking CAT. But  with so much popularity and so much societal acceptance, CAT is also been referred to as an “Un-Crackable Exam”. But that’s not the case, with precise schedule and knowing the right idea of doing your preparation, we can ring a bell to CAT.
CAT 2019 details have been released on July 28 with the announcement of the notification. The exam will be conducted on November 24, 2019. MBA aspirants aiming for a seat at any of the coveted B-schools in 2019 have already started planning on how to bell it or how to prepare for the CAT exam. While some students take the safer route and start their preparations even before the notification is announced, some wait to plan their preparation strategy based on the official release of exam pattern. But there is another group, which is in a dilemma on when and how to start the preparation process.
Let’s explore-
Coaching V/s Self Study
While some MBA aspirants take coaching, others follow their instinct and opt for self-study with study materials available on the web. Although there is no hard and fast rule to follow a particular preparation method, what matters most is how you plan and which topics you study so as to cover the entire syllabus of CAT and secure a high percentile in CAT.
As mentioned earlier, some of the aspirants might have already started taking coaching classes according to their convenient timing and mode. This does not mean that those who have not enrolled in coaching or planning to go for self-study are at a loss. The time for preparation has just started and you can still catch up with the early birds if you follow a systematic strategy.
Know the syllabus and pattern
The foremost step to crack an exam is to know and understand the CAT exam pattern and syllabus. Before preparing you must know the areas or topics you have to prepare, like we say, before shooting you must know what you are aiming for. It is important for you to cover the syllabus and clear the basics. Usually, the syllabus for all four topics cover Class 10th and 11th level books, but the questions are a bit tricky and require logical thinking, also you should practice every topic an brush up more and more.
Master Basics
Once you know your syllabus and have your study plan ready, you should get acquainted with the basics in each section of the test. Having the fundamental concepts clarified is the biggest asset any CAT aspirant can have in order to crack CAT. If you have conceptual clarity, you can solve any tough problem.
Start Section-wise preparation.
The best way to get yourself ready for CAT is to bifurcate your study time table into allotted time for each sections separately.  Prepare by following a routine and stick to it, give equal weighatge to each section (QA/DI-LR/VA-RC) or more in the one you’re uncomfortable with.
Time Management
We know the CAT allots 1 hour to each section, so we can tell that apart from knowledge of each sections, CAT also test time management skills of a candidate. For tackling the situation you should practice daily with a timer on, and try to attempt every question you’re confident about, and don’t waste your time on those you’re uncomfortable with.
Mock tests and question papers.
After you’ve covered basics, practiced them, you should start taking mock tests, online tests etc as much as you can, in that way you’ll be more comfortable with the CAT exam pattern and will also improve your time management skills plus you can analyze your performance yourself. Attempt and try to solve each question and in given time. Mark your errors and try to remove them kin the future, also try and solve previous year’s question papers so you can understand the mindset of CAT.
